Philosophy:

The Committee of Management, staff and parents of Seabrook Kindergarten believe that there are fundamental elements in providing opportunities for children to realise their potential.

We aim for children to meet their potential through the provision of the opportunity to:

We believe in the recognition of the uniqueness of each child and family, and the need for children to develop an understanding and respect for ones self and others. We acknowledge the critical importance of children, parents and staff as partners in a learning community that promotes the wellbeing, education and development of all children. We believe that the role of adults is to provide a stimulating and responsive environment where positive reinforcement and encouragement make learning possible. We recognise and value the knowledge and commitment of the staff and fully support their continuing professional development. Seabrook Kindergarten aims to be an integral part of the local community, encouraging participation from family, friends and community members. We acknowledge, rejoice and incorporate the culture and diversity of people within our community.

The Program

Kindergarten is the first step in your child’s formal education – but it is not like school! There is no prescribed curriculum to follow. Instead each teacher observes the children in their group and they plan separate programs based on these observations, while trying to cater for the needs, interests and abilities of all the children in the group.  The program is carefully planned to provide a secure and happy environment which will foster children’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual and creative development. Each teacher’s individual program is displayed on a notice board in the foyer area.   Daily routines may vary between groups and are flexible, depending on factors such as weather and group dynamics.

We endeavor to fill the room with a wide range of experiences, presenting them attractively to entice the children to investigate.  When children are absorbed in play that interests them, they are most likely to learn. Children are naturally curious and eager to explore their environment.

We also value the outdoor environment. Weather permitting, we will take the children outside each day. Our yard includes many natural materials to appeal to children’s sense of adventure and encourage sensory exploration.

We also aim to develop children’s concentration and persistence in preparation for school.

We believe that parents are their child’s first teacher. At times we may seek information from you about your child. Any feedback you provide is valued, as it helps us to cater for the needs of your child.

We welcome your participation and assistance in the kindergarten program. Helping during the session, attending excursions and sharing special skills, are just some of the ways you can be involved.  Staff are always happy to have a chat about your child’s progress if you have any concerns or queries.

At Seabrook Kindergarten we aim to provide a warm and welcoming environment where children, staff and families can learn together.
